In honor of Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States, IAAM will be hosting J.O.Y. | Juneteenth on the Yard on Thursday, June 19, from 12PM to 5PM, with all-day, free admission to our museum (see link to register for Juneteenth Museum timed-entry admission tickets!).
A vibrant celebration of culture, community, and freedom in our African Ancestors Memorial Garden, this year’s annual program will feature an array of activities for the whole family. Hosted by radio and television personality Riecy G from Z93Jamz broadcasting live to sounds by DeeJay Rubin, our headliner this year is Grammy-nominated singer, MC, songwriter, activist and acclaimed Hip-Hop artist Mumu Fresh! A showcase of performances throughout the day will also include The Mahagonee Xperience, Jordan Maria, and the Wona Womalan West African Drum and Dance Ensamble!
This is a day to celebrate Black liberation, joy and resilience at the IAAM. Join us on Juneteenth as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and imagine a future rooted in unity and joy. Mark your calendar, invite your community, and make plans to celebrate freedom with us at IAAM!
The International African American Museum’s 2025 J.O.Y | Juneteenth on the Yard program has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom.
